Phil ilalampaso si Chairman BF sa Celebrity Duets

Palaban pala talaga itong si Phil Younghusband.
Kasi, he plans to stay in the Celebrity Duets up to the very end at handa siyang kalabanin si MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando for the title.
He is here to win!
Kinanta nila ang You’ve Lost That Love and Feeling. Naghubad din noon ng shirt si Hayden sa show to the delight of the female televiewers.
Attracted si Phil kina KC Concepcion and Anne Curtis who are both three years older than him.
Aminado siya na he’s ‘open to a lot of things even to gay and matron admirers for as long as they text vote for him sa Celebrity Duets.
Just text Phil and send it to 367 for Smart and TNT or 2344 for Globe, TM and Sun!

Phil Younghusband: Celebrity Duets' new eye-candy

He may be skilled in the field, but there’s no denying that the stage loves ex-Chelsea Football Club striker Phil Younghusband.

As the youngest contestant in GMA-7's Celebrity Duets, Phil himself admits that he has no experience in singing. But he impressed us here at FemaleNetwork.com when he sang a few lines for us, after much coaxing, during our interview with him. He has improved a lot from his first performance on the show; he revealed that he has, in fact, been practicing a lot, showing us just how determined he is to win the competition.

We're curious: how did you get into Celebrity Duets?

GMA-7 invited me and my manager thought it would be interesting, but at the end of the day, I still had the final say. It was different, and I thought I couldn't sing in front of a lot of people, but I like the show and I was encouraged by my manager, family, and friends to join because they said it would be fun. It's a challenge and I enjoy challenges.

What can you say about being the rumored forerunner when it comes to number of votes now?

I didn't know that I'm leading! [It's just that] if I'm not singing well, I feel down. It's something I've never done before but I want to be the best.

How do you train for the show?

I take voice lessons, which are difficult; they aren't your usual voice coaches but they're good. It's difficult to hate what you love. When you're in front of the camera, it's hard to re-enact how good the practice was, it's really different when you're practicing and then singing in front of people. I try techniques like holding my ears, trying to get the tune.

What keeps you busy?

Practicing for the show--right now it's really all about practice, practice, practice! I'm also busy learning Tagalog and going to the gym.

Would you sing a lot of Filipino songs?

No, I've got to stick to what I know best. My first song was modern and upbeat, which was very difficult. So [I'm opting for] something slow, a ballad--one thing I've learned is to stick to what I'm good at, so that's my strategy. Maybe I'll try to entertain people, but I've learned that your performance is important. Whatever I'm doing on the stage, I hope that entertains people. That's why I’m enrolled in a gym now--I'll take my top off in one of my performances! (He also told us that, when at a loss one time for what song to sing next, he decided to go to a record store and chanced upon a CD of Side A--and this is where he got the idea for the song he'll be seeing tomorrow on the show!)

We know that Celebrity Duets isn't a permanent thing. So do you have plans after the show?

I don't know right now, maybe I’ll go into show business, who knows. I'm more of a person who doesn't like to plan too far ahead. I like to take things as they come, as long as I'm enjoying myself, I'd do it. It's difficult to tell if I can play football here, since it's not very popular here; it's difficult to play full-time. But I love football, I still watch and play. At the moment though, I'm not too sure. London--who knows, maybe. I take things one at a time. Maybe an album?

I'd run for president if I beat Bayani (Sec. Bayani Fernando, who is also part of the show)! We already have a joke about it--"What would you prefer, an old BF or a good-looking young husband?" (laughs)

The Shower Singer, Phil Younghusband

PHIL YOUNGHUSBAND: ‘I’m 21. I’m experimenting.’

Phil Younghusband has been kicking around a football since he was three years old. At the age of nine — when the most serious thing that concerned our own prepubescent selves was maintaining our coolness with the latest lunchbox — he was signed to the Chelsea Football Club. For most of his 21 years, Phil has been walking, talking, and breathing football. What else can you expect from a Fil-Brit lad with a “massive football fan” for a father who kept football on the telly for “every second of every day,” and a mother made of the hardworking stuff that separates overseas Filipinos from their laid-back, stay-at-home brethren?

But this Younghusband has been making some changes. Changes that involve his charmingly cheeky smile and long hours with a karaoke machine. “For the past week I’ve been on my Magic Sing,” shares Phil, “And I’ve been scoring 100 every time.” But why has he turned his killer competitive instincts on an innocent game of sing-along? That would be the fault of Celebrity Duets — Phil’s latest foray into the showbiz world.

Already branded a heartthrob, Phil has been making the most of his current visit here, converting his Eurasian good looks into celeb cred through endorsement deals with Adidas and the hunk-heady Hanford. But really, why would a football “Ledge” (as his big bro James nicknamed him) opt to tread the worn and weary path of model-slash-personality, whose wayside is littered with failed has-beens and forgettable “Fil-somethings”?

Recently rounding off a decade or so of wearing the Chelsea F.C. colors, it was more than just showbiz that called this striker home. The current Younghusband storm taking over Philippine athletics all started with a regular kid, who informed the Philippine Football Federation of the Younghusband brothers’ Filipino blood — a little trivia he discovered in a video game. “It’s weirdly funny that just a week before we were contacted, players in the changing room were wondering what if James and I played for the Philippines?” shares the pro footballer.

But making the decision to represent his mum’s homeland wasn’t as easy as a couple of collect calls. “To play for the Philippines, we had to sacrifice playing for England,” explains Phil. “My mum’s really proud to be Filipino, and so are we,” the young phenom reveals. “It felt like the right thing to do.” Despite the move being an inevitable first step towards Pinoy stardom, it’s pretty obvious that this frequent flyer’s in it for more than just the media miles.

’Course, playing footie for Flips won’t take up too much of his time, what with the sport’s underdeveloped form in this Coca-colonized nation of relatively, er, short people who insist on playing a height-biased sport. “We enjoy helping it grow, but football’s not going to become the biggest game overnight,” he reflects. In the meantime, showbiz is a natural alternative for Phil, the self-proclaimed extrovert of the two, who “[likes] to be in front of the camera, and [enjoys] all the attention as well.”

Or perhaps the younger Younghusband brother is looking to expand his world beyond the field. “I’ve always been about football, so growing up I had to make personal sacrifices. Like in high school I didn’t go to house parties, because of training or a game the next morning,” recounts Phil, before kicking away any possible impressions of a sad, deprived child enslaved to the game. “I’ve learned leadership and discipline — and that’s going to help me throughout my life.”

The guy may not have any regrets about a life of football — but that doesn’t mean he can’t live it up a little on the side. “I’m 21. I’m experimenting,” he declares. “I still want to see and experience different things, and meet new people. I’m just trying to enjoy it as much as I can.” Whether he can hold a tune or should just stick to scoring goals remains to be seen, but cheers to that.

And with his earnest dreams of “releasing an album, going to Hollywood, and becoming an international superstar” — nurtured by the ever-present minus-one entertainment of his mum’s Pinoy dinner parties — and his taste for local favorites like pansit and adobo, it just goes to show that you can take the Filipino out of the Philippines, but you can’t take the karaoke machine away from the Filipino.

Phil Younghusband:

:: Has a dream of 'releasing an album, going to Hollywood, and becoming an international superstar'

:: I’m addicted to singing.

:: What I miss the most about the Philippines when I’m in England is the friendliness of the people. I sing “You Are so Beautiful” when I’m in the shower.

:: I absolutely cannot stand rudeness.

:: My all-time favourite movie is “The Goonies.”

:: I have the biggest crush on myself.

:: I have the worst habit of not being able sit still.

:: My secret talent is I can sing (not really).

:: I’m a hot tub/cold shower kind of guy.

:: I absolutely suck at nothing.

:: When I’m not on the field, I like to eat.

:: If I weren’t a football player, I would be a Hollywood star.

:: I find (mammary glands — no) a girl’s smile sexy.

:: If I could meet one person in the world or in history, it would be Mark Wahlberg.

:: What I miss the most about England when I’m in the Philippines are my family and friends.

:: Most people don’t know this about me but I am very sensitive.

:: Life is about enjoying yourself.

:: My favorite place in the Philippines is El Nido.

:: If I was stuck on a desert island and I could only bring three things, it would be an airplane, a boat, and a car.

:: My favorite food is roast pork, roast chicken, roast lamb. So yeah, meat.

:: I wish I’d never thought that I didn’t need to learn Tagalog.

:: On hot days I like to cool off with a cold shower.

KC mas type ni Phil

Footloose
By: Leo M. Bukas

“But I haven’t met her.

Eh, anong sasabihin niya kapag na-meet niya si KC?

“I will tell her na ‘please vote for me sa Celebrity Duets. Joke only,” pabiro niyang pahayag.
